| can a mature female scorpion be impregnated just before a pre-molt? i have a 7i P. trans that looks as if its gonna explode anytime soon.. she hasn't been eating for more than 2 weeks straight but she's fat as garfield. 8i P. transes are not unusual where i'm at but i currently subjected her to breed.
they're breeding like bark scorpions as i type, doing it on a vertical piece of wood. will upload pics for documentation purposes soon. this looks like a peaceful mating though. no stinging, no chasing around, no forceful struggles. lots of body vibrating, tail stretching to push obstacles aside and lots of flapping pectines lol.
kinda fun to watch | |

| shes not mature if she will molt again. Do you have pics? You sure she is 7i as opposed to 8i? Just asking, not meaning any ill will.
in addition, note if the spermataphore takes and if she drops a brood. ive never heard of trans maturing an instar early, but keep us informed.

| all my scorpions came from the Philippines and early instar maturity and ultimate (8i) molting is quite common for scorpions there (i.e. 8i H.longi, 8i P. trans, 5i HH giving birth, 6i bark scorpions birthing, etc.).. anyways, last night after 6 hours of mating dance i think it's done. i've read a former mod's guide (GS's guide about mating) http://allscorpionarchives.forumotion.com/t16-how-to-guide-to-mating-scorpions and everything about a successful mating has been done by my pair. since last night til now, they're unaggressive towards each other and they even sat beside each other the whole day.

| If she attains a big size by 7i it is possible that she will have a brood but I think she will molt. You will just have to wait and see. | |

| Just an update, i think the female doubled in size (in terms of bulk) that's why the male looks so small beside her hehe.

| sometimes an adult male is willing to pair even with an subadult female, sure its not working out - but as said its not unusual that p.transvaalicus females are adult in 8th instar and as abyss said - withput pictures it never happened | |

| Nice pics! I wonder if there is more risk to the male when mating if he is a lot smaller than the female? | |

| Well it's not unusual for the male to be a lot smaller than the female in a lot of species and cannabalism is rare. But I had an intance of a violent mating attempt with H.judacaius in which the male couldn't get the female to budge so it turned into a stinging fight and both specimens dead. | |

| Funny how they got bored from the 'usual' desert scorpion mating in the ground and shifted to a bark scorpion mating ritual in that vertical chunk of wood haha..
I have a video but stupid youtube and facebook is giving me a hard time to upload it lol

| Mating bark-style does seem weird. You would think they would be evolved to do it a certain way. | |

| They were taking turns with whose on top with that wood. Kinda funny to watch. Their mating dance lasted for about 7 hours and they're friends now ever since. They dont seem bothered living with each other for about a month now. | |
