I usually rescue snakes and monitors, been doing it for quite sometime but I got a phone call to take in a rescue. He's a little guy, body's about the size of a zippo. Just trying to see what species he (or she) is, so I can get started on a new vivarium for it.

LOL, yup Shedder is right again. I had previously said H.arizonensis after breifly looking at the pictures. I failed to notice the lunar marking present in H.arioznensis. THis is in fact H. spadix.

I didn't have to use a picture for this one haha. I actually had looked up the difference between H. spadix and H. arizonensis for that last thread so I didn't need pictures here haha.

Similar care requirements to arizonensis?

Edit: Checked it out. Looks like he's going to be great with us.

Yep, deep burrowing substrate (sand+clay). It also appears quite plump as though it's getting ready for a molt.

Just out of curiosity... What are the tell-tale differences between the two species? I noticed from pictures that H. arizonensis is a bit lighter colored than H. spadix and the tail seems to be a bit fatter on the H. ari, but I've also seen pictures of H. spadix with lighter greys and a little bit fatter of a tail. What is the lunar marking that Ed spoke of earlier?

I tell them apart by the black on the face. H. arizonensis will have some yellow around the eyes, and H. spadix will have that area be all black.

No problem. I was a little confused once so I then looked it up.

The yellow around the eyes is a crescent shape so I call it the Lunar marking. Spadix are completely black.
