PostSubject: H. arizonensis with 31 PTC   6/22/2013, 7:30 pm

Bah. My H. arizonensis has 31 teeth on the pectines. Anyone know of any other dimorphic traits for this species? I'm thinking female, but with a 31 count it could be either...

Here are some pics....

A few other things to look for:

* When the pectines are in a swept back position, the first tooth on each pectine will almost touch in males. In females, they will be a noticeable distance apart. This is also related to the taper of the pectine where it attaches to the basil plate. Female pectines have a narrower taper than males.

* In males, the pectines will extend past the first joint on the fourth leg.

I would say you have a female.

Awesome. I'm thinking the same thing. Now... lets see if she's about to pop or molt...
