PostSubject: Sterility In Scorpions   5/18/2013, 10:00 pm

I have a pair of C. margaritatus that I've watched successfully mate about 5 times in a 4 month period. The female does not show any signs of being gravid nor does she react negatively to the male when I throw him in there to mate. They ALWAYS do their dance, he drops a spermatophore, it's picked up by her, and he runs like all hell. I had a friend mention scorpions maturing too soon, and remaining sterile for the rest of their lives. I was just looking for info on how to avoid a "premature maturity",(LoL) or just any general info on the subject. Thank you.

I've never heard anything like this. I'll be watching this one closely.

Yeah, I'm really curious to find out because it would suck to have to worry about something that sounds as horrible as that.

Well, I've heard of some arachnids being sterile; I know that one of Cornell's best looking Damon diadema males is completely sterile.

I haven't heard of it being related to the rate at which they matured, though.

I have a male you can try. I'm not 100 percent sure he's mature but I believe him to be a small mature male. I believe it can happen I mean let's say for example the male is the result of a hybrid ?

Thanks, man. Hopefully it works. I'm really bewildered by this baffling rumor, or fact. Which is it?

I had a Babycurus gigas female a while back that was sterile or at least never gave birth in spite of being with the male for over 2 years. I'd say, just like with any animal, it's possible. However, I don't believe it is common at all.
