| Males have larger pectines and larger pectine teeth, and the genital operculum is more oval in shape. Females have smaller pectines and smaller pectine teeth, and the genital operculum is slightly pointed towards the metasoma. Note: the female pictured here was in poor health so the operculum does not stand out with as much contrast as the male's does. _________________ If your emperor scorpion stops eating, don't panic. | My reviews | My Bug Pictures | My blogBe nice -- you were a noob once, too "Never ask an engineer to explain something, because he will." |

| Is this a male or a female? The pectine teeth aren't that long... Do you think it's an adult? Here's the pic from when I got "him": _________________ 0.2.0 P. imperator » 2.1.0 B. jacksoni (gravid) » 0.0.5 L. quinquestriatus 0.0.1 P. cavimanus » 0.0.1 S. subpinipes de haani [still scares the crap out of me!] 0.1.0 B. albopilosum » 1.0.0 G. rosea » 0.0.1 A. aviculara 1.0.0 P. regius » 0.0.2 Anolis carolinensis

| Definitely female. Notice how the genital operculum has a slight point towards the tail-end of the scorpion. Not sure on adult . . . that telson's borderline between "cream" and "brown." My guess is adult and that the flash kind of washed out the color. _________________ If your emperor scorpion stops eating, don't panic. | My reviews | My Bug Pictures | My blogBe nice -- you were a noob once, too "Never ask an engineer to explain something, because he will." |

That fem looks a bit bulgy in that pic, don't you think? _________________ 0.2.0 P. imperator » 2.1.0 B. jacksoni (gravid) » 0.0.5 L. quinquestriatus 0.0.1 P. cavimanus » 0.0.1 S. subpinipes de haani [still scares the crap out of me!] 0.1.0 B. albopilosum » 1.0.0 G. rosea » 0.0.1 A. aviculara 1.0.0 P. regius » 0.0.2 Anolis carolinensis

| They don't eat when they're coming up to a molt, right? She just ate yesterday; gobbled a cricket down. I have a juvi emp that's possibly a male. Do you think that it could be sexed at this size? http://img292.imageshack.us/img292/691/spotonspikeae1.jpgThat image was in a thread that I was asking about what the spot was where the arrow is pointing. _________________ 0.2.0 P. imperator » 2.1.0 B. jacksoni (gravid) » 0.0.5 L. quinquestriatus 0.0.1 P. cavimanus » 0.0.1 S. subpinipes de haani [still scares the crap out of me!] 0.1.0 B. albopilosum » 1.0.0 G. rosea » 0.0.1 A. aviculara 1.0.0 P. regius » 0.0.2 Anolis carolinensis
