PostSubject: A quick question or two.   Sat Oct 31, 2009 10:00 pm

Hello everyone, yesterday I bought an infrared heat lamp so I can view my scorpion's nightly activities and it (I say it because I haven't yet had the chance to sex him/her) hasn't moved at all except when it goes into a defensive position when it sees my hand. When I have a regular lightbulb on it does the same thing. I was just curious as to wether or not scorpions can see red light or not. Question number two, last night I saw him/her in the "feed me" pose, you know, with the claws sticking out of the hide. I just put a cricket in to see if it would get eaten and it didn't. I am aware that scorpions will fast from time to time, i'm kind of worried that something might be wrong. I apologize for the foolish questions, I am new to "land lobsters'' and considering my other pet is a pacman frog, I worry when things don't get eaten. Laughing

Haha, Pacman frogs are insane - any animal that will swallow another animal it's size whole in one chomp is cool in my book.

What kind of scorp are we talking about? It should not see the infrared light. I wouldn't be too overly concerned, my Hottentotta judaicus does that "feed me" thing you described ever so oft but ignores or runs from it's food.

The scorpion in question was labeled as an asian forest scorpion at the petstore I bought it at. It's only a little thing, about 2 1/2 inches long i'm estimating. Could it be the temperature? For now, i'm keeping it in a sterilite container on the floor next to my bed. My bedroom usually evens out at 82 degrees, but it's about 78 or 79 on the floor. At the moment, it's just sitting next to one of the sides of the container that I have the lamp on. Warming itself up? I'm a bit worried that i'm going to have a fried scorpion.

Scorpions have a habit of sitting there and not doing anything from time to time. It's nothing to worry about. And as long as there's a cooler section of your tank or a hide for it to escape the lamp, you shouldn't wind up with a fried scorp.
