PostSubject: Two-tailed Hetrometrus   10/31/2009, 4:33 am

The supplier I got my H. spinifer from in the Cameron Highlands, took a photograph of a two-tailed Hetrometrus he collected in the wild. The photo was sold as a postcard in his trinket shop. I bought a copy and had it on my wall for the longest time. I never posted it due to the fact it was not mine and I never questioned if it might have been a photoshop job. I'm no expert in photo analysis, but this photo represents a possible novelty that I hope to see in the flesh someday...

Due to the glossy finish of the postcard, I had a difficult time scanning it. Instead, I took a picture of the post card with my Logitech webcam.

Master JeromeKoojiman at the infamous Venom List aged this specimen to be approximately 4th to 5th instar. The supplier also mentioned that he has encountered this mutation 7 times in his countless forays out into the jungle, so my guess is that these mutations are more frequent in nature than many of us would imagine.

Cheers.... I'm not crazy guys.... lol

Well, isn't that a freakish looking creature!

I've seen a load of pictures of two-tailed scorps recently... there's been a few on Arachnoboards. Cool stuff, very interesting Smile

Awesome. Very Happy I was secretly hoping that with all the broods I had this summer I'd find at least one . . . no such luck.

I think it's just a random mutation -- but, there's not a whole lot of studies done on scorpion genetics that I'm aware of.

I know that sixth fingers in humans is inherited but not necessarily from inbreeding. I read one account of a female two-tailed scorpion that had a brood of entirely one-tailed scorplings, so that makes me want to lean towards random mutation.
