That's a tough one with just that one pic Mike. Who collected it and is it possible to get some more pix of it?

My best guess at this juncture is Serradigitus joshuaensis but that is neither here nor there. The family Vaejovidae is full of species that look alike from one genus to the next on such a picture as the one provided.

Vaejovidae is still a family, it was a species of the genus Vaejovidus that got re-described as Hoffimanus - spinigerous being that species.

Yeah, the great misfortune of not having the Scorpopedia up right now. But that doesn't mean that you don't have to be in the know, just hang out at the following sites:

Dun, Dun, Dun!!!! New issue of Euscorpious!!! New species: Vaejovis deboerae? Maybe! http://www.science.marshall.edu/fet/euscorpius/p2009_86.pdf

It's from much further south but...ya never know. At any rate, a scorpion in a jar is hard to identify because of lighting washout anyways.

One of Lori's friends in Phoenix caught it. I told her I couldn't ID it but I knew it wasn't the only dangerous one in the neighborhood.

It's on its way here today and should arrive by Friday.

Define dangerous? So, I can expect pix in a few days then? Good.

If it's not C. scuplturatus, then she's relieved.

Just re-read my post -- I realize the way I worded it, it could sound like I was calling this one dangerous.

Most definitely not a Buthid for sure. Very much Vaejovidae and therefore, harmless.

The tail structure makes me think Vaejovis spinigerus, but I'm not sure about the stripes on the mesosoma.

And I'm guessing it's a female . . .

Don't think it matters now . . . cats knocked it over while we were gone and 'twas nowhere to be found. Sad
