Males have larger pectines and larger pectine teeth, and the genital operculum is more oval in shape.

Females have smaller pectines and smaller pectine teeth, and the genital operculum is slightly pointed towards the metasoma.

Note: the female pictured here was in poor health so the operculum does not stand out with as much contrast as the male's does.

Hello,

I have another m.gibbosus, that i find hard to sex.

However, have no fancy slr or any hi-res camera.

Could anyone give me some guidelines here, preferably accompanied by closeup photos?

I could use a photo of the male's and female's pendilap and a photo of the last segment of the metasoma, in both sexes.

I have also noticed that one has been moving its tail in a strange way when they are together (male?)

Thanks again and sorry for the lenght of the post

For those unfamiliar with the species, it is a meager 2.5" long, and its pectines are maybe 1cm across, making teeth nearly impossible to count. I quickly ruled this method out, as i had no firm counts on teeth anyways. The only advice I got was "the males have more bulbous claws". Well, when the claws are smaller than a grain of rice it is quite hard to ...

Please help me figure out the sex of my Pandinus Imperator. At first i was excited and thought it was a Female... since the operculum had the shape, sort of, but it appears to be upside down when compared to another female. I really dont know. I WANT it to be female but i am really not at liberty to make my judgement. Could any of you check this picture out and arrive at a consensus for me and voice your opinions? I would really appreciate it!. Thanks all!!

Just rehoused Bug, my H. paucidens, and after acquiring the emperors the other day and mentioning the possibility of breeding, my wife asked me if this was a boy or girl and if we were going to get another to breed (yes, I know they're non-communal) Can you tell from these shots, or do I need another angle? Yes, that's a dollar coin, little bigger than a quarter at 26mm.

Hello scorp forum. I'm a newcomer ( )and I recently picked up a p. imperator and would like help at sexing it. There were two of them together in confinement where i purchased it. Of the two i chose the larger, more robust one. The other was about 2/3 the size and rather thin, and less interested in me i would say. I have images at the link below, some are a little bit blurry but others are crystal clear. I have only handled it to put it in the tank and plan on letting it relax a little ...

I have heard juvenile male or full grown female, mouth to tail base is 2.25 to 2.5 inches. I don't see the female heart between the pectines... but it also doesn't have any prodominant male features (like the Cavimanus Dent and the Tooth on the moveable finger). So maybe it just isn't mature yet? Anything would be helpful, and I keep trying to get better pictures... but I don't have an area I can do that in, suggestions for that would be appreciated aswell. Thanks.
