I feel like such an idiot coming on here again asking for advice. It seems like this is NOT my year for my poor scorp. I've never had any problems with any thing in my tank until this summer.

I posted a topic a few weeks ago. I have a p. cavimanus (red claw). I've had him for about 3 years now and I'm not too sure of how old he was when I bought him. I had random gnats. Got rid of them. Now I have these little white mites. Try as I may, I have yet to find an answer as to what they ...

Hey everyone, some of you may remember a while ago me asking various questions about setting up an asian forest tank? Well I have now got everything and have got back off holiday so its all systems go! Im currently watching my 2 bricks of substrate expand in the water I can then start the decor! I'm going to ring the local reptile shop and ask what they have got in they may have to order an asian forest but hey whats a few more days? I plan to get a baby and watch it grow! Is this a good choice?

I have a few questions about reading the LD50 chart.Hope someone could clear it up for me.

I have been looking at AB's LD50 list and I se different value for the same species ex. Mesobuthus eupeus is listed with two different value - 1.45 and 45.5 why's that ?

And what is it with the high values >100 and almost all the tityus are way over 1.0 some even over 8.0 thats on this list http://www.terra-animals.de/LetaleDosis/Scorpiones Maybe its true with the tityus but I just thought ...

Hello. I had two adult female B. jacksoni in an enclosure, and had placed a fake piece of wood in there for the scorpions to climb on. I hadn't noticed it before, but there was a hole on one side where they formed the piece. One of the females is way up in that fake piece of wood, I can't even see her. I turned it on it's side, and a half eaten roach fell out, so I am confident she is in the piece. I do not think I can safely break it. The other female was gravid, and I was afraid I was ...

Despite the issue I am having with my P. cavimanus... I was looking into possibly getting a H. spinifer. This one cool local shop had one last year when I was in there, but at the time, I was so busy with work/school I didn't have time to do a new tank setup or get back to this store (it's about 45 minutes from my house and totally out of the way of work or school). I have been looking online, and doing a random google for anybody selling or breeding them. I got nothing. I even called all ...

I apologise for creating such a similar thread to my "2nd scorp" one...

What is usually reccomended as the step-up from the ever-popular emp ?

Is it a Hadogenes species ?

Hadrurus ?

Heterometrus ?

Something else ?

Just wondering. guys.

I may be able to handle a 2nd one... despite my recent "change of mind", but I'm more looking into something non-venomous like Mastigoproctus giganteus (Giant Vinegaroon).

Please, just share honest opinions.

Hey...I have just read the info regarding Scorpion Envenomation on this page http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/168230-overview ..............

Quote:The lethal members of the Buthidae family include the genera of Buthus, Parabuthus, Mesobuthus, Tityus, Leiurus, Androctonus, and Centruroides.

I'm just wondering how the Mesobuthus sp. turned up to be lethal

Hoping someone here have a clue

Can anyone provide me with any info on Indian red scorpions (mesobuthus tamulus)? All i found was the scientific name and of pages about their venom studies.
Well, I think I'm going to start going nuts in this hobby just like many of you have. In a good way or course. Scorpions are way cheaper than snakes. I have several containers, and would like have a hide of some sort in each, and other habitat pieces.

What do breeders, or people with larger collections use? I don't have access to shows etc. A tiny and cheaply made hide box or cork bark on these supply sites is very expensive for what you get. Often 8$ for a half coconut shell etc. ...

Haven't seen my scorpion (Pandinus Cav, Red Claw) in almost 2 weeks. It dug a fairly long and deep burrow. Hasn't came out in almost 2 weeks. Didn't know it it was dead or alive. Started poking around, removing some of the substrate trying to find it, suddenly something grabs onto the small dowel I was digging with. Apparently, it's alive and well in there. Prob mad that I disturbed it though. I damage the burrow with the digging. I hate that because I don't want to stress it. Just wanted to ...

Ok, so I left the LPS manager a list of desirable species which should be a bit easier to look after than my emp. This means desert species or species that require less humidity than emps. The following were my choices, in no particular order.

There is just one specific requirement : I want a species that will be comfy in a medium kritter keeper.

So anyways, on with my picks...

Androctonus australis

Babycurus jacksoni

Hadrurus arizonensis

Leiurus quinquestriatus

As for the original question, of the options listed, I'd suggest H. arizonensis as well. Large, not too large for a medium KK in my opinion, plenty feisty with prey, and not dangerous to humans.

Ras, do you have a citation for that lifespan of C. vittatus? I've never heard of barks living more than a few years.

I didn't mean to start it.

HI, I am currently thinking about adding a new scorpion to the family, but I am having a hard time deciding. First, I am thinking mostly of a desertic, dry enviroment specie. It doesn't need to be communal, it will be kept alone. I'm thinking about and Androctonus Australis, I find their massive tail so impressive, but I find that they are a little too common. I got a list of available species to choose from. Tell me what you think

They both get a locust each every 6 days, usually they are both fine with it, but yesterday i put one in and the male grabbed it straight up, put another in and shunted it towards the female and she wasnt intrested much.

i left it a while came back and found the locust on otherside of tank, put it back next ...

One I know is female[well duh, she's pregnant] and the other is still a mystery. I named her Maia: The Roman Goddess of Fertility since I found her under a rock pregnant, and the other is Barney Fife. I can't find the other one, I just ...
