I feel like such an idiot coming on here again asking for advice. It seems like this is NOT my year for my poor scorp. I've never had any problems with any thing in my tank until this summer.

I posted a topic a few weeks ago. I have a p. cavimanus (red claw). I've had him for about 3 years now and I'm not too sure of how old he was when I bought him. I had random gnats. Got rid of them. Now I have these little white mites. Try as I may, I have yet to find an answer as to what they ...

Iomachus politus

the male died shortly after mating some time ago as you may (or may not) remember. So I didn't know for sure if they had actually mated successfully.

Anyway just over 24 hours ago on my birthday, look what I came downstairs to

18 babies, 6 more than last time

she is also a lot more defensive than last time and acting like a mother should. Fingers crossed she has learned and will not eat this brood

This new job is great so far, but it doesn't leave me a lot of free time to play on the net . . . so don't be surprised if I seem scarce in the coming months. I'll try to drop in from time to time but probably won't be as active of a participant.

As is, they have me in a hotel a few miles from the mill, but when I move it will be a nine-mile cycling commute each way.

If anyone's wondering about the job . . . week one was more or less a small "fix this problem" project. Collect ...

hey guys

I'm sure you're familiar with Prehistoric Pets and their new show The Reptile Zoo.

You can check out the vids on youtube

Well, I really enjoy their vids, but something's been on my mind that makes me feel uneasy about it all.

I don't know if you guys are aware, but they already have quite a few snakes in the back area, over a thousand I believe and possibly well beyond that. They have a lot of vids where Jay, the owner, cuts open snake eggs from various breeding projects ...

Hi all! I just aquired my first emperor scorpion, and I'm getting mixed answers as to whether it is ok to handle him. The pet store I bought him from let me handle him before I made my purchase, the shopkeeper picked him up by his tail, and the scorpion didn't show any aggression.

I brought my new scorpion home, and sat on my bathroom floor, and held him twice, for only a few minutes each time. He was lively, and, again, did not seem aggressive at all. I know the risk of being pinched of ...

A week ago I bought a pre-molt, subadult female emp. Last night I decided it was time to introduce her to my male. I placed the two in a 25-gallon tank to make observation easier, and put in two hides. The female walked over to the male and poked him a few times with her palps. The male started stroking her sides with his telson (seemingly going out of his way *not* to sting her) and poking her with his palps. This went on for nearly half an hour, and at random intervals the male would start ...

Having read the FAQ, there are still some things that I'm not totally sure if I'm doing it right.

So I've acquired a sub-adult female emp 3 days ago. For the first two evenings, she was always exploring around continuously. From day 3 and today, she seems to have kept to herself since I haven't seen her out of her hide.

I know that at least 3 out of 4 crickets had dissapeared since I gave them saturday and yesterday (she took the rosea's share since she didn't want to eat). It's a lone ...

After moving the plant to the other side of the tank beside the log, digging stopped on the shallow side of the tank.

Now they've burrowed down a bit and 2/3 way along the front with the end of the burrow being at the base of the tank (the glass) and large enough for the 2 of them to fit into snugly. is it okay for them to be touching the glasslike that at all times?

I hope that I packed the earth firmly enough so it won't colapse!!

I might think about moving that ...

I keep buying bugtubs that I get at my local pet store and they have like... 50 crickets in it (smallest one you can get). But before I get them fed to my emp Xena, there's about 30 crickets that are already dead in the container.

I feel as though im wasting money on those bug tubs, but that's the only way I can get crickets around here. So will she eat them even though they're already dead? And will she still get ...

Hello. I had two adult female B. jacksoni in an enclosure, and had placed a fake piece of wood in there for the scorpions to climb on. I hadn't noticed it before, but there was a hole on one side where they formed the piece. One of the females is way up in that fake piece of wood, I can't even see her. I turned it on it's side, and a half eaten roach fell out, so I am confident she is in the piece. I do not think I can safely break it. The other female was gravid, and I was afraid I was ...

Quote:The lethal members of the Buthidae family include the genera of Buthus, Parabuthus, Mesobuthus, Tityus, Leiurus, Androctonus, and Centruroides.

I'm just wondering how the Mesobuthus sp. turned up to be lethal

I bought 2 in the last week and just set up a 10 Gallon tank for them to live in, I'm new to keeping anything other than the odd snake and after setting up my tank and introducing the Emps and crickets I've noticed that the crickets are hiding in the fake plant, should I be worried that my scorps won't be able to get to the crickets??

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow of my set-up.

P.S. 2 of the 4 crickets are now hanging from the roof...

Thanks in advance!

Simple, it didn't get the chance to lay any eggs in the substrate Instant relief for me.

Hey, everyone. New here, so go easy on me, if this is a dumb question...

Can anyone provide me with any info on Indian red scorpions (mesobuthus tamulus)? I've searched the web for nearly two hours and could not find any pages that would describe these in any way, let alone how to care for one. All i found was the scientific name and of pages about their venom studies. I just found a guy who has a couple of those for sale, but don't want to get them before i know how to care for them properly. ...

Sleeping on his side ?

Yep, strange as it sounds, when I woke up today my emp was on his side, quite peaceful looking. I'm sure it was another seizure episode cause his legs were all drawn up under him, but instead of grabbing a camera for a pic, I opened the top and he casually rolled over and walked away. Sorry I missed the pic Mike, but thanks for the idea he could be messing with me, I'm really beginning to believe it's just that.

Assuming a scorpion nut doesn't have access to swaps and shows, or doesn't field collect down south, is there a better time of the year to buy? I just did overnight due to the weather, but do regular mail shipping deals ever pop up during the summer? How do you guys buy/trade with each other, when somebody just posts that one of their scorps have popped?

Assuming you were going to gather different species over time, and one dealer didn't have everything you wanted.. several shipments ...

Black Fat-Tail - Androctonus bicolor

Here's another one of those "had this for awhile, no idea why I didn't post sooner..." Delirium got me this little beastie (thnks again), my favorite member of the genus Androctonus, tying in with mauritanicus for the its matte-like finish, but bicolor has the gloss!!!

For this one, a one of kind DIY enclosure; and a closer shot of the interior

The ceramic-claypot shard serves nicely as a hide.

Unfortunately, this one came with the black spot (no discredit to Delirium). ...
